Startpage and Bare are both built for people who want more from search than the mainstream offers. Here is a straight look at how they differ.
Startpage gives you Google's results without Google's tracking by acting as a privacy proxy. If you specifically want Google-quality results privately, it is the obvious choice.
Side by side
| feature | bare | startpage |
|---|---|---|
| free, no account | ||
| no behavioral profile | ||
| no search history kept on you | ||
| google-sourced results | ||

the verdict
Pick Startpage when you want Google's exact results without the tracking. Pick Bare when you want a barer page and do not need results to come from Google specifically.
Try Bare in one search
The fastest way to decide is to run a real search. Bare gives you plain links and a single quick fact when it is confident, with no account, no history, and no profile, and your query reaches the index through our server rather than straight from your device.
